Rollback OnePlus 7/Pro/7T/7T Pro to Android 10 OxygenOS 10

In this guide, we will show you the steps to rollback or downgrade the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro to OxygenOS 10 Android 10 from the newer OxygenOS 11 Android 11. This OEM always had this reputation of releasing timely Android upgrades. And they stood true to their promise, at least for their flagship series. However, that wasn’t the case with its seventh series of devices. Due to data encryption issues, they had to work day in out with Qualcomm in rectifying this issue.

But finally, the wait time is over and as of now, users have received the At the time of writing, these devices have received the Open Beta 1 update. With that, there are a plethora of new and noteworthy features that you are likely to welcome. The biggest change that you are likely to welcome is the complete UI overhaul (just head to the Settings page and you’ll get the idea). Then there are a few additions to the camera (of which the ability to directly share the image via thumbnail came out to be my favorite).

Likewise, there are some Android 11 exclusives such as One Time Permissions, revamped power menu, Screenshot Share menu and he likes. However, even then there are quite a few issues bugging the end-user and many of them have already made up their mind to switch to the earlier stable build. If you also echo these thoughts, then you have come to the right place. In this guide, we will show you the steps to rollback or downgrade the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro to OxygenOS 10 Android 10 from the newer OxygenOS 11 Android 11.

Bugs in OxygenOS 11 Android 11 Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro

These are the officially documented bugs that OnePlus has listed out on their forums:

  • Potential risks of increased power consumption and instability.
  • In some conditions, the Gallery app might be slower to load and some pictures may not be displayed in the Gallery.
  • The devices (earphones, speakers, etc.) connected through Bluetooth may not be able to play sound occasionally.
  • Brightness adjustment may lag in some conditions.

Apart from that, I did a few explorations myself and managed to found out users complaining of issues related to their inability to set up Fingerprint Scanner, OnePlus Launcher, and Settings keeps stopping, some are not able to set their device refresh rate to 90HZ, and are stuck with 60Hz and the inability to use AOD. Likewise, there are quite a few more that aren’t as major as the aforementioned ones.

And let’s not forget the fact that the OTA that OnePlus rolled out erased all the data on the user’s device. While it is always recommended to take a backup beforehand, but some decided not to do. This is because OnePlus official instructions clearly say that you don’t need to take a backup if you are upgrading from stable MP to Open Beta OBT. The OEM was quick on its part to remove those links, but even then, there were already a few infuriated users who lost most of their data.

All in all, there are many users who have now made up their minds to go back to the earlier version. So if you are looking to perform the same, then this guide shall come in handy. Here are the detailed instructions to rollback or downgrade the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro to OxygenOS 10 Android 10 from the newer OxygenOS 11 Android 11.

How to Rollback/Downgrade OnePlus 7/Pro/7T/7T Pro to Android 10 OxygenOS 10

rollback downgrade OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro to OxygenOS 10 Android 10 from OxygenOS 11 Android 11

Here we would be doing a rollback from the newer OBT to the previous OBT build. Yes, that’s correct. As of now, it isn’t possible to rollback to the MP build. In other words, we would be doing a downgrade from Android 11 Open Beta 1 to Android 10 Open Beta build and not the Android 10 stable build.

Furthermore, in the case of the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro, you will have to install this rollback package twice. This is because, during the first installation, it will only delete a few system apps. To perform a full downgrade and remove all of them, it requires you to flash the downgrade package once more.

As far as the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro are concerned, only a single install is needed, no need to install it twice. So with that in mind, let’s get started with the guide to rollback or downgrade the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro to OxygenOS 10 Android 10 from the newer OxygenOS 11 Android 11. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

STEP 1: Take a Backup

This process will wipe off all the data from your device. So make sure to create a complete device backup beforehand.

STEP 2: Download the Android 10 OxygenOS 10 Downgrade Firmware

Now, download the OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10 downgrade firmware for your deivce and region from the below links. As mentioned before these are the Android 10 Open Beta OBT builds and not the Stable MP build.

STEP 3: Install Android 10 Rollback File on OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro

  1. To begin with, download the downgrade zip package for your specified region.
  2. Then transfer it to the phone storage, but not within any folder.
    install open beta 1 android 11 on oneplus 7 7t 7t pro
  3. In some instances, it might be having the extension JAR. If that is the case, then rename it from JAR to ZIP. For that, just remove the .jar word from the end. You will then be left with the filename.zip.
rename oneplus open beta zip to jar
  4. After this, head over to the Settings page on your device and go to System.
  5. Then go to the System Update section.
  6. Tap on the gear icon situated at the top right.

  7. Select the Local Upgrade option.
  8. Now navigate to the downloaded update firmware file and select it.
    local upgrade file oneplus
  9. Hit the Upgrade button and wait for the process to complete.
  10. Once, the upgrade is complete, click Restart. Your device will then be booted to the Android 10 OS. If you are a OnePlus 7 or 7Pro users, then your task stands complete.
  11. On the other hand, the OnePLus 7T and 7T Pro users need to reinstall this downgrade ZIP file. You should use the same procedure that we did just now (via the Local Upgrade option). As soon as you have installed the rollback firmware onto your device, hit the Reboot option and now your device will restart to Android 10.

That’s it. These were the steps to rollback or downgrade the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro to OxygenOS 10 Android 10 from the newer OxygenOS 11 Android 11. If you still have any queries, do let us know in the comments section below. We will get back to you with a solution at the earliest.

  • Hi, thanks for this article, it’s been super helpful! Android 11 had been a bad upgrade for me so I’ve decided to go back to 10. I’ve followed your steps and successfully downgraded and I’m now on Android 10.

When I go to settings and look at the system update it says I’m on OP7TPro_O2_BETA_09 and my latest security patch level is October 2020. On An Android Authority article it mentions a newer, stable build released January 30th 2021 (also with updated security patch to January 2021).

Is it possible to upgrade from what I'm on now to this newer and stable update?

    Thanks,
    Nathan

    • Sadique Hassan

Hi Nathan, true to my knowledge, since it is an official OTA update, you should have no trouble installing it. And thanks for the appreciation.

Got the error “System update installation failed. This version has no changelog.”
i am fully satisfied with the latest stable oxygen os, but the only quirk is that dolby atmos equalizer is not available in stable european ROM while it is available in Indian ROM.
I just need to change from European to Indian but the local upgrade doesn’t allow me to do that. It says you can’t downgrade. Any suggestions?

  • jonathan d wint

7T pro McLaren as a brand phone has the Local Upgrade option Greyed out as in not there.

    • Sadique Hassan

Hi Johnathan, Sorry but I don’t have much clue regarding the McLaren variant. If you are able to find the workaround for this, please let us know as well

  • Hi i have 7t pro mclaren 5g From T-mobile and I don’t have the local upgrade option is there anyway to do it ?

Well, that’s a first, never heard about that before! Try this and let me know- Apps and Notifications > App Info > Tap on the overflow cion situated at the top right and select Show system > select System Updates > Try Force Stop/ and or Clear Storage.

      • how can we do that on T mobile devices as we do not have the local option gear.

      • Palwinder

If i do this downgrade then I’ve to root my device again? OnePlus 7t pro mclrn

        • Sadique Hassan

Hi Palwinder, yes you will have to root your device again as the boot/recovery partition will now be back to stock.

  • Hi excuse me I have updated Oxygen 11 and since then I have encountered a lot of problems in my Oneplus 7pro I would like to go back to version 10 but this is what I am confronted with each time I want to launch the download how I please proceed

    • Sadique Hassan

Hi Zeus, by the statement “this is what I am confronted with”, you mean the downgrading is not allowed error message? Because this usually happens when we downgrade from Beta to Stable on the same Android/OxygenOS build. Downgrading from one Android version to another doesn’t usually show this error.

  • Many thanks for this guide. I could not stand the later V11…. Backup working well… All is good!!! 🙂

  • Yevhen Mozdir

I did all the steps but when I press Local upgrade there is no files. No upgrade ((

    • U didn’t have to unzip it there; just copy-paste the downloaded file ( make sure to remove the .jar extension from it by renaming it ) and follow the above procedure.

    • Sadique Hassan

Hi Yevhen, make sure that you have transferred the file to the Internal Storage but not inside any folder (as some likes to call it, it should be in the root directory). Likewise, also verify that the file extension is ZIP and not JAR.
